Trade Unions, S-Contro, Dirty Job, Codroipo, CSA Baraonda, Segrate (MI), 04.03.2023

Anche quest’anno è il Baraonda ad ospitare il classico memorial per Dax, questa volta diviso in due serate e in due sabati diversi (4 e 11 marzo). L’iniziativa è sicuramente importantissima, oltre che, ovviamente, per il significato, ma anche perchè si tratta di una delle pochissimi appuntamenti fissi a livello nazionale (e credo l’unico nell’area di Milano) ad andare avanti ininterrottamente da anni.

Arrivo leggermente in ritardo causa bevuta allungatasi senza controllo, appena prima di partire scopro che i Codroipo stanno già suonando (cosa che non mi aspettavo minimamente, visti gli orari tipici del Baraonda), ed infatti quando arrivo al posto hanno già finito, il che mi dispiace molto perchè non ho mai avuto l’occasione di vederli dal vivo, e mi tocca rimandare un’altra volta!

C’è stato un cambio nella scaletta all’ultimo momento; i Lumpen non ci sono, sembra che abbiano perso l’aereo (?), al loro posto i locali Dirty Jobs, che già su queste pagine conoscete bene, e che hanno appena iniziato a suonare quando arrivo.

Il quartetto brianzolo sembra meno in forma delle altre volte, in particolare sembrano un pochino giù di voce, anche se non mollano un cazzo, i suoni sono come al solito rocciosi e potenti, oi! veloce e senza compromessi. Poichè questa non è la pagina personale di propaganda dei Dirty Jobs, stavolta solo foto ma niente video, che già ne abbiamo parecchi loro, facciamo un po’ spazio anche agli altri! In più, essendo appena arrivato, ne approfitto anche un attimo per prendere una birra e dare un’occhiata in giro, quindi una parte del concerto me la perdo. Torno poco prima del gran finale con il solito medley “Chaos/Tempi nuovi” che funziona alla grande come al solito (il finale è sempre tra le cose più importanti di un concerto!).

Also this year Baraonda hosts the classic Dax memorial (Dax was an antifascist from Milan killed by some nazis 20 years ago), this year divided into two evenings on two different Saturdays (March 4 and 11). This initiative is certainly very important, as well as, obviously, for its meaning, but also because it’s one of the very few appointments at a national level (and I believe the only one in the Milan area) to continue without interruptions for years.
I arrive slightly late due to an uncontrollably lengthened drinking session, just before leaving I discover that Codroipo are already playing (which I did not expect at all, because of the typical timetables of Baraonda), and in fact when I get to the place they have already finished, which makes me very sorry because I’ve never had the chance to see them live, and I’ll have to postpone it again!

There was a last-minute lineup change; the Lumpen aren’t there, it seems that they missed the plane (?), there are Dirty Jobs instead, a band that you should already know well if you follow this website, and they have just started playing when I arrive.
The Brianza quartet seems less fit than the other times, in particular they seem a little down in voice, even if they don’t give up shit, sounds are rocky and powerful as usual, oi! fast and uncompromising. Since this is not Dirty Jobs‘ personal propaganda page, this time only photos but no videos, we already have a lot of them, let’s make space for the others too! In addition, having just arrived, I also take the opportunity to have a beer and have a look around, so I miss part of the concert. I’ll be back just before the grand finale with the usual “Chaos/Tempi nuovi” medley that works great as usual (the finale is always among the most important things of a gig!).

Ora spazio ai livornesi Trade Unions, che non ho capito se si sono riformati in maniera stabile o se sono tornati solo per qualche concerto (credo più la seconda ipotesi). Ecco, ve lo dico subito, a me i Trade Unions non sono mai piaciuti, nè dal vivo nè (tanto per restare coerenti) su disco, a parte giusto un paio di canzoni. Dopo questo concerto posso dire che il mio giudizio rimane invariato, non riescono a coinvolgermi e li trovo sempre un po’ “legnosi”, anche se devo dire che a livello tecnico li ho trovati lievemente migliorati (non conosco bene la loro formazione, ma mi ricordavo che avessero solo una chitarra). I pezzi sono quelli classici, “Livorno popolare” (una delle poche canzoni che apprezzo), “Fieri giorni” ecc, concerto lungo (un’oretta più o meno), c’è gente sotto al palco che canta e fa un po’ di casino, insomma l’atmosfera sarebbe quella giusta ma niente, sarò capriccioso io.

And now make room for the Trade Unions from Livorno, which I didn’t understand if they reformed in a stable manner or if they only returned for a few concerts (I think more the second hypothesis). Well, I’ll tell you right away, I’ve never liked Trade Unions, neither live nor (just to be consistent) on record, apart from just a couple of songs. After this concert I can say that my judgment didn’t change, they can’t get me involved and I always find them a bit “woody”, even if I must say that on a technical level I found them slightly improved (I don’t know their formation well, but I I remember they only had one guitar). They plays their classic songs, “Livorno Popolare” (one of the few songs I appreciate), “Fieri giorni” etc., a long concert (an hour or so), there are people under the stage singing and makin mess, in short, the atmosphere would be the right one but nothing, maybe I’ll be capricious.

Cambio palco decisamente più lungo dopo l’esibizione dei livornesi, ora tocca agli S-Contro (anche se a me piace sempre più scrivere S*Contro con la stellina/asterisco) di Torino, per uno dei loro due/tre concerti annuali che si concedono. Allora, degli S*Contro mi piacevano le primissime cose, poi mi è sembrato che fossero diventati un gruppo che voleva fare hardcore senza riuscirci; però, signori e signore, il vostro Oi! The Brontolone fa marcia indietro e ammette che a sto giro mi sono decisamente piaciuti. Sarà che partivo da aspettative basse, sarà perchè mi sono sembrati un pochino meno hardcore delle ultime volte, sarà perchè mi sono sembrati più precisi di altre volte, sarà perchè ho visto la luce, ma sono stati coinvolgenti, potenti, insomma un bel concerto. La scaletta non me la ricordo con precisione (colpa della birra del Baraonda, che come al solito deve avere degli ingredienti magici- o tossici- visti i suoi effetti quasi lisergici), però ricordo “Reietto”, la doppietta “America assassina” con la classica cover di “Zu atrapatu arte” dei Kortatu, e poi “S*contro”, “Che delusione” e la chiusura con il bis dell’inno “Ma che cosa resta di noi?”. Un’oretta di concerto, poi spazio ad un DJ set improvvisato con i coraggiosi che resistono fino alla fine.

A longer stage change after the performance of the Livornese combo, now it’s up to the S-Contro (although I prefere write S*Contro) from Turin, for one of their two/three annual concerts. So, I liked the very first material from S*Contro, then it seemed to me that they became a band that wanted to play hardcore without succeeding; however, ladies and gentlemen, your Oi! The Grouch backtracks and admits that I definitely liked them this time around. It will be that I started from low expectations, it will be because they seemed a little less hardcore than the last few times, it will be because they seemed more precise than other times, it will be because I saw the light, but they were engaging, powerful, in short, a good concert. I don’t remember exactly their setlist (because of the Baraonda beer, which as usual must have magical – or toxic – ingredients given its almost lysergic effects), but I do remember “Reietto”, “America assassina” and the classic cover of “Zu atrapatu arte” by Kortatu, and then “S*contro”, “Che delusione” and the closing with the encore of “Ma che cosa resta di noi?”. An hour of gig, then space for an improvised DJ set with the brave who resist until the end.
