Cash From Chaos, Dirty Job, Ostile, Suicide by cops – 19.11.2022 Ponte della Ghisolfa, Milano

Serata con 4 gruppi al Ponte della Ghisolfa, in occasione del compleanno di Johnny (ex Ruggine e noto personaggio della Milano hardcore).
Arrivo al Ponte della Ghisolfa nemmeno troppo tardi e noto già un buon numero di persone, non sarà il pubblico delle grandi occasioni ma basta ed avanza per riempire la saletta del Ponte della Ghisolfa, che per l’occasione sembra anche più pulito e ridipinto di fresco (o forse perché sono io che non ci andavo da un sacco di tempo? Chissà).
Iniziano intorno alle 22.30 (temevo decisamente peggio) i Cash from Chaos, ovvero Garghy ex Ruggine (per l’occasione in total black e cravatta texana in pieno stile Johnny Cash) alla chitarra e voce, insieme all’onnipresente Bert/Reverendo Maranzano addetto ad un improbabile accompagnamento ai tamburi e Aldo del Ponte ad una seconda chitarra improvvisata.
Propongono un po’ di cover di Johnny Cash (Folson Prison Blues, Home of the blues), Social Distortion (Ball and chain), Hank Williams, Equals (Police in my back); una mezz’oretta di delirio (per fortuna alla fine entra a sorpresa Grazia Doggs/Retrolove per regalarci una Ring of fire finalmente a tempo), in cui sicuramente qualcosa da rivedere c’è, ma che fa cantare un po’ tutti ed è un ottimo antipasto per la serata.
Pronti, via, ecco il turno dei Dirty Job che non vedevo da un po’, e che non avevo ancora visto con la formazione a 4 con Thomas (Ostile) alla seconda chitarra. Un po’ più “-core” rispetto alle volte precedenti e al precedente periodo Stanley, forse partono un pochino lenti e compassati ma dopo qualche canzone e grazie anche ad un paio di cover riescono a rompere il ghiaccio e a coinvolgere i presenti, si accende anche il pogo di vecchietti e non solo. Gran finale con il (classico) medley “Chaos/ Tempi nuovi” che funziona sempre e fa ammattire grandi e piccini.
Promossi a pieni voti e ottima prestazione anche a livello tecnico.
Dopo di loro gli Ostile; ecco, devo dire che non sono mai stato un loro grande fan, li ho sempre trovati un po’ troppo hardcore e con pezzi un po’ troppo omogenei tra di loro. Stasera, però, sono decisi a smentirmi: compatti, non troppo tirati e decisamente coinvolgenti. Inoltre ci sono due aspetti che ho apprezzato molto. Il primo è che hanno fatto un set breve, una mezz’oretta, lunghezza perfetta per un gruppo punk; capisco che chi suoni voglia sempre suonare qualcosa in più ma per un gruppo punk non molto conosciuto 30-35 minuti sono ideali, riesci a suonare abbastanza ma non troppo da rischiare di annoiare il pubblico. Seconda cosa: niente cover. Come spettatore apprezzo sempre qualche cover da cantare insieme al gruppo, allegria, cori eccetera eccetera. Però non posso che sostenere la scelta coraggiosa di proporre solo pezzi propri, e di prendersi il rischio di presentare solo la propria musica, piaccia o non piaccia.
I Suicide Cop che chiudono la serata li sento poco perché (mea culpa) mi perdo a chiacchierare e bere fuori e non mi accorgo che hanno cominciato a suonare. Non ne avevo mai sentito parlare e, sinceramente, non sono proprio il mio genere: trash/grind urlatissimo, pezzi veloci e brevi, casino fuori scala. Non mi sento in grado di giudicarli, posso solo dire che a vederli c’era un po’ di gente e a tratti un po’ di bordello, quindi a qualcuno sicuramente sono piaciuti e quindi male non potevano essere. Hanno anche un po’ di sfiga perché sono costretti a interrompere il concerto qualche pezzo prima del finale previsto perché gli si rompe una corda, e ormai è tardi, all’1 il concerto deve finire.

For Johnny’s birthday (ex Ruggine and well-known character from Milan hardcore) there is a 4 bands night at the Ponte della Ghisolfa, .
I come at the Ponte della Ghisolfa not too late and I immediately see a good number of people, it won’t be the public for special occasions but it’s enough to fill the Ponte della Ghisolfa, which for the occasion seems even cleaner and freshly repainted (or maybe because I haven’t been there for a long time? Who knows).
Cash from Chaos starts around 10.30 pm (I feared much worse), aka Garghy -ex member of HC band Ruggine- (for the occasion in total black and Texan tie in full Johnny Cash style) on guitar and vocals, together with the ubiquitous Bert/Reverendo Maranzano in charge of an improbable accompaniment on drums and Aldo (resident guitarist of Ponte) on a second improvised guitar.
They offer some covers of Johnny Cash (Folson Prison Blues, Home of the blues), Social Distortion (Ball and chain), Hank Williams, Equals (Police in my back); half an hour of delirium (fortunately in the end Grazia from Doggs/Retrolove enters by surprise to give us a finally timed Ring of fire), in which there is certainly something to review, but which makes everyone sing a bit and is a great appetizer for the evening.
Ready, steady, go: here’s Dirty Job’s turn that I hadn’t seen in a while, and that I hadn’t seen yet with the new 4-pieces line up with Thomas (Ostile) on second guitar. A little more “-core” than the previous times and than when they were Stanley, perhaps they start off a little slow and “formal”, but after a few songs and thanks also to a couple of covers they finally break the ice and involve people, causing pogo for the old men (and not only). Grand finale with the (classic) medley “Chaos / Tempi nuovi” that always works and drives all people crazy. Promoted with full marks and excellent performance (technical too).
After them the Ostile; here I must admit that I’ve never been a big fan, I’ve always found them a bit too hardcore and with songs a bit too homogeneous. Tonight, however, they are determined to prove me wrong: compact, not too tight and decidedly engaging. Also there are two aspects that I really appreciated. The first is that they did a short set, about half an hour, the perfect length for a punk band; I understand that whoever plays always wants to play something more but for a not very well known punk band 30-35 minutes are ideal, you can play enough but not too much to risk boring the audience. Second thing: no cover. As a spectator I always appreciate some cover to sing along with the group, to dance and so on. But I can only support the courageous choice of proposing only one’s own pieces, and of taking the risk of presenting only one’s own music, like it or not.
I don’t hear much of Suicide Cop closing the evening because (mea culpa) I lose myself chatting and drinking outside and I don’t notice that they’ve started playing. I’d never heard of them and, honestly, they’re not really my cup of tea: screaming trash/grind, fast and short pieces, off-scale mess. So I don’t feel able to judge them, I can only say that there were people enjoying them and a bit of mess too, so someone certainly liked them. They also have a bit of bad luck because they are forced to interrupt the concert a few pieces before the expected ending because of a string break, and it’s to late to regain time, the concert has to end at 1 am.
